According to the Guangzhou Power Supply Department, the world's first 500 kV vegetable oil-fired transformer has been successfully put into operation at the Guangzhou 500 kV Zengcheng Substation. This breakthrough marks China's transition from a laggard to a leader in the field of high-voltage, environmentally friendly transformers. As the world's highest-operating voltage vegetable oil-fired transformer, it fills an international gap in the practical application of 500 kV natural ester insulating oil transformers.
This transformer consumes about 65 tons of oil, which is estimated to reduce carbon emissions by 72.8 tons, equivalent to the carbon emissions of 250,000 cars driving one kilometer.
The 500 kV Zengcheng Substation, Guangzhou's first 500 kV substation, served as one of the core power supply hubs for the 15th National Games, ensuring power supply to key venues, reception hotels, and other key locations. Its zero-pollution, high-reliability vegetable oil transformers vividly embodied the Games' philosophy of "green, shared, open, and clean." Furthermore, its oil-to-paper system, capable of withstanding extreme weather conditions, boasts a temperature range 15°C wider than traditional equipment. Combined with a lean operation and maintenance solution, this significantly enhanced power supply reliability during the 15th National Games.
